It is my great pleasure to welcome you to the 4th International Conference on Engineering and Environmental Sciences and the Symposium on Sustainable Construction Materials and Structures in Africa (ICEES/SSCMS 2026). This conference, supported through the RILEM Africa Event Facilitation Grant, exemplifies RILEM’s commitment to strengthening scientific collaboration, capacity building, and knowledge exchange across Sub-Saharan Africa. It provides an outstanding platform for researchers, practitioners, industry leaders, policymakers, and students to share innovative ideas and develop partnerships that will advance sustainable construction and resilient infrastructure on the continent.

I encourage all participants to engage actively in the technical sessions and networking opportunities as we work together to address the challenges of rapid urbanisation through science, innovation, and international collaboration.
